How to Measure a Commercial Refrigerator Glass Door for Replacement

Prepare a replacement-door brief with separate dimensions for the door, cabinet opening and glass unit, plus the interfaces that determine fit.

Identify the part you are replacing

Start with a front photograph of the complete cabinet and a readable cabinet label. Record the host brand, model and serial or production reference in your own project file. Identify whether the request concerns the complete framed door, a sliding panel, the insulated glass unit inside an existing frame, or selected hardware. Include how many openings need attention and whether the remaining doors use the same construction.

A commercial cooler door can look similar to another model while using different hinges, gasket retention or electrical connections. Keep the existing part reference with the photographs. If a label is missing, write unknown and describe what can be observed. MARKOOL can review the available information and identify the dimensions or interfaces still needed for a quotation.

Keep three sets of dimensions separate

Use millimetres or inches consistently and retain the original reading when converting units. Record what each measurement includes. A door-body dimension, maximum hardware projection and clear opening are separate observations. Measure accessible points with the cabinet in a safe condition; dismantling a door or exposing wiring belongs to the applicable service procedure.

The worksheet uses a customer-side front view and datum A at the top-left of the observed door. Mark that datum on a photograph so another person can reproduce the reference. For a new OEM cabinet, use the controlled cabinet drawing and its stated datums instead. A replacement-part measurement is input for a fit review, rather than a manufacturing tolerance or automatic deduction from the opening.

Record hinges, handedness and opening clearance

State left-hand or right-hand hinge as viewed from the customer side, then include a photograph showing that view. Mark the top and bottom hinge centres from the same datum and describe any offsets, pin or bracket arrangement and visible mounting-hole pattern. Record which parts will remain on the cabinet and which must be supplied with the replacement.

Add the handle projection and space needed for the intended opening movement. A sliding set needs its own track, roller, overlap and stop information. A panel-only quotation should identify the existing sliding system it is intended to use. Width and height alone do not settle whether a hinged or sliding replacement will operate correctly.

Describe the gasket and any electrical interface

Photograph an accessible gasket corner, the contact surface and the retention method. Record whether the existing gasket and frame are to be retained. A similar external shape does not establish the correct gasket section, compression or magnetic contact. The review should identify the proposed seal and how it relates to the receiving frame.

For a heated or illuminated door, photograph accessible labels and the cable exit without exposing live connections. Record the information already available about the supply, controller and connectors. Leave unknown electrical values blank for review. Keep glass heating, frame heating, logo lighting and cabinet product lighting identified as separate functions in the brief.

Send a small, consistent photo set

A labelled set is easier to assess than many unrelated images. Use the same door reference on the worksheet, photographs and drawing request. Include a scale or measurement annotation where practical and state which side is being shown. Keep a record of the person and date associated with the measurements.

If different doors are used across a rollout, prepare one set for each construction or revision. List the quantity against each reference rather than applying one measured example to every cabinet. This helps distinguish an initial replacement sample from the number of doors eventually required.

Review the proposed drawing before the sample

Ask for a revision-controlled drawing that identifies the proposed door envelope, opening, hardware interfaces and agreed supply list. Mark each input as measured, taken from an existing drawing, proposed or still unknown. If measurements conflict, retain the conflict for resolution rather than averaging the readings or selecting the convenient value.

Industry document libraries commonly keep installation information and net-opening information as distinct references. STYLELINE provides both types in its support navigation. Use that distinction when requesting your own project documents; another manufacturer’s opening chart does not establish a MARKOOL replacement dimension.

Turn the measurements into a fit review

Send the worksheet with the photographs, destination, required quantity, intended operating conditions and the supply scope you want quoted. Existing measurements can be incomplete at this stage. The response should identify open questions, a proposed construction and the evidence needed before approving a sample.

For a replacement sample, agree how opening, closing, sealing, clearances and any electrical functions will be checked against the host. Record the accepted drawing and sample revision together. Ordering a complete cooler instead follows the cabinet-selection path, including refrigeration and loading requirements.

Apply the checklist

Request a review of your replacement-door measurements.

Send the host reference, measured dimensions, photographs, quantity and destination. Start with the information you have; the fit review identifies what remains open before quotation or sampling.
