Commercial Refrigerator Dimensions: Measure the Site, Door and Usable Space

Compare countertop, slim upright and can-shaped cooler dimensions, then check door movement, ventilation, delivery access and the space available for your actual packs.

Which refrigerator dimensions do you need?

A width × depth × height listing is a useful first filter, but it cannot answer every fit question. A cooler can fit between two fixtures with its door closed and still be impossible to stock, clean or service. Ask which handles, hinges, feet, castors and header parts are included in the stated outside dimensions.

Keep four measurements separate: the cabinet's outside size, the space needed to install and operate it, the clear space available for products, and the packed size used for delivery. Litres and can counts are different information again. There is no single standard commercial fridge size across countertop, slim upright and floor-display formats.

Compare six MARKOOL reference sizes

These outside dimensions come from the current MARKOOL product listings. They are reference values for comparing the six shortlisted formats, not measured internal dimensions or approved installation drawings. Keep the exact model and document revision with your project. The inches column is a rounded conversion using 25.4 mm per inch; use the original millimetre values when checking a tight space.

The two can-shaped models have a round body, but their listed width and depth describe the outside footprint. Do not treat 448 mm as the usable internal diameter. Likewise, the 390 mm outside width of a countertop or slim cabinet does not establish its clear shelf width.

To convert millimetres to decimal feet, divide by 304.8. Ref. 020's 1980 mm reference height is about 6.50 ft. Decimal feet are not feet-and-inches notation: 6.5 ft means 6 ft 6 in, not 6 ft 5 in. Keep the original millimetre value for the final fit check.

How much counter space does a countertop drinks fridge need?

Start with the usable counter surface, not the fixture's overall top. Measure between tills, coffee equipment and other obstructions. Check the counter depth at the narrowest point, any raised rear edge, overhead cabinets and the shopper-side overhang. Then add the installation allowances specified for the selected cooler; the cabinet depth alone is not the required counter depth.

For a logo-led display facing the shopper, compare Ref. 004 and its header. Where shoppers see the product from several directions, compare the four-sided glazing of Ref. 009. Neither choice proves that a particular counter can support the equipment. Obtain the weight of the configured cabinet plus the proposed stock and accessories, and have the site owner confirm the support capacity. Also leave room to open the door and replenish without moving the till or obstructing service.

Slim upright, full-height upright or can-shaped cooler?

A narrow fridge footprint helps only if the complete operating space works. Ref. 012 is the narrower, lower option in this shortlist; Ref. 020 offers a taller front display and lightbox. Compare them against the available floor width, headroom, customer sightline and the amount of stock needed between replenishment visits. Height alone does not establish a larger usable pack-out for your assortment.

For a can-shaped promotional cooler, measure lid access above the cabinet as carefully as the floor footprint. Check whether a neighbouring counter, sign or queue barrier interferes with opening and product removal. Ref. 005 and Ref. 006 have different lid arrangements, so review the actual opening method rather than assuming the two outside footprints make them interchangeable.

Can a freestanding drinks fridge go under a counter?

Only treat a cabinet as suitable for an enclosure when the exact configuration is approved for that installation. A cooler being shorter than the counter, or having a grille visible at the front, is not enough to establish built-in suitability. Identify the actual air inlet, discharge path and parts that require access. Include the countertop, side panels, adjacent equipment and wall in the review.

Use the selected model's installation instructions for rear, side, top and front clearances. Do not reuse a universal gap from another refrigerator. For context, TRUE's TVM installation manual provides its own clearance and setup instructions; those requirements apply to the covered TRUE equipment, not to a MARKOOL cabinet. Until a model-specific arrangement is confirmed, keep an enclosed location as an open question in the brief.

Allow for door swing, lid opening and shelf removal

Draw the door in its required open position on the site plan. Include the handle and hinge projection, nearby walls, queue rails and adjacent doors. The opening needed to take out a single can may be smaller than the opening needed to remove a shelf for cleaning. Ask for both access conditions and confirm the hinge side; do not assume the door can be reversed on site.

For top access, check the lift or flip path and where a removable lid would be placed during service. For either format, try the loading motion with the intended package and the proposed shelf or basket arrangement. Record whether staff can reach the rear stock, rotate dates and clean without moving the cabinet. Required aisle or accessible-route dimensions belong to the site plan and applicable local requirements, not to a generic cooler specification.

Can a refrigerator be transported on its side? Check the route first

Measure the narrowest doorway, corridor, turn, lift entrance and overhead restriction between the unloading point and the final position. Record any step, ramp or threshold, and identify the surface and handling equipment. A tall refrigerator may pass through a doorway but fail at the next right-angle turn, especially while packed on a pallet.

Do not plan to lay a commercial cooler on its side or back simply because it fits the vehicle that way. Plan an upright route unless the selected model's transport instructions expressly permit another orientation. Ask for packed dimensions, shipping weight, approved handling points and the unpacking position before booking the delivery.

The concern extends beyond visible glass and panels. Liebherr's transport guidance explains that horizontal movement can expose compressor mountings to forces they were not designed to absorb. This is a reason to check the equipment-specific instructions, not permission to apply another manufacturer's transport procedure to a MARKOOL cabinet.

If a cabinet arrives in a different orientation from the agreed plan, record the handling information and visible packaging or cabinet damage, then get the model-specific inspection and commissioning instructions before powering it. Do not substitute a generic 2-, 12- or 24-hour waiting rule: the applicable procedure depends on the actual equipment and how it was transported. A smaller cabinet is not automatically safe to lay down.

Internal dimensions: why litres and can counts are not enough

Measure the clear loading width and depth at each intended level, with the door closed. Identify rails, shelves, stops, lighting, ducts and other intrusions. Record the clear height available above the pack, the permitted shelf positions and the way a customer removes it. Do not subtract a guessed insulation thickness from the outside dimensions to create an internal size.

For each drink, supply the largest actual package diameter or width and depth, total height including cap, and filled weight. Two cans with the same nominal volume can have different shapes; a taller bottle can change how many shelf levels remain usable. Product spacing also has to respect the actual cabinet air path and shelf load rating. A geometric arrangement is a useful proposal, but it is not evidence of temperature performance or a verified stocked capacity.

Read the R02 loading plans as requirements, not cabinet measurements

The R02 files supplied with the six models start with selected pack dimensions and a proposed arrangement, then calculate the clear space that arrangement would require. They do not report measured space inside a physical cabinet. For example, Ref. 004 uses a 55 mm diameter × 137 mm tall pack in a 36-can target, requiring W195 × D255 × H480 mm of clear space under the stated design assumptions.

Ref. 012 instead uses a 67 mm diameter × 118 mm tall pack in an 80-can target, requiring W303 × D303 × H713 mm. Changing from 004 to 012 therefore changes both the model reference and the example pack. It does not establish that the original 004 assortment now fits an 80-can plan. Check your own package requirements whenever the model changes.

Keep the drawing, configuration file and loading file under the same model number and R02 revision. Treat the calculated envelope as a question to verify against the cabinet, access and operating requirements. Do not substitute an R02 target for a catalogue reference count, or describe either as a tested result without the corresponding evidence.

A site measurement checklist for your cooler brief

Photograph the position from the front and side and mark dimensions on a simple sketch. Give every number a unit and state whether it was measured, estimated or taken from a document. For a multi-store rollout, group genuinely similar placements and record the exceptions rather than assuming every outlet matches the first shop.

What to send for a size and loading review

Send the selected model or two-model shortlist, site sketch, photographs, actual package dimensions, desired facings, destination and quantity. Include any deadline or fixture dimension that cannot change. Mark unknown information as unknown rather than supplying a guessed clearance or internal dimension.

Use the downloadable site checklist to collect the placement details and the beverage display brief to record your assortment. Free pack-out planning can then connect the packs to a proposed layout, while a free branded mockup shows the visual direction. Review the physical fit and operating configuration separately before approving a purchase.
